IPAK MUMPS EFFICACY STUDY: EFFECTS OF VACCINATIONON RESERVOIR POPULATION SIZES

We are modeling the combined effects of mumps vaccinations and efficacy on the relative sizes of mumps virus reservoirs in the vaccinated and unvaccinated population to determine the switch point effect for every level of vaccine efficacy to answer the following questions:

  • At what point in vaccination coverage do asymptomatic infected vaccinated infections (VIs) outnumber the symptomatic unvaccinated infections (UVIs)?
  • What are the effects of vaccine efficacy of VIs/UVIs ratio?
  • What are the expected effects of strategies such as exclusion of unvaccinated individuals compared to at-home testing for mumps infection?
  • Can we invert the analysis and use VIs/UVI ratios to estimate the realized vaccine effectivness for any vaccine?
  • What does our method predict ofthe realized effectiveness of the MMR?
